Question…

Carb overloading? I have a placement 25 minute erg row tomorrow for crew. What to eat?

Just curious – as i’ve read about runners doing carb overloading, which is a method that provides lots of quick, energy delivery.

Tomorrow I compete with my classmates for a 25 minute erg (rowing machine) for placement on the crew team. What should I eat tonight?

PASTA!!

Pasta is the carb of choice for carb loading. You need complex carbohydrates that break down slowly to give you sustained energy. Also, give yourself lots of water in the morning and get a lot of rest tonight. Don’t underestimate the power of sleep!

25 minutes is not really that long so carbo-loading isn’t going to help. Also you should never try anything new on “race day” or placement day. Eat whatever you normally eat before a training session. For future placements or races experiment during training with energy gels, honey, coffee, whatever you like.
