Concept 2 Rowing Machines Hire or Buy?

by on April 1, 2010

When I wanted to get an indoor rower, the question I had to answer to myself was, “should I buy a concept 2 rowing machine or hire one?” I ended up buying a brand new one, but of course I looked into the possibility of hiring one and it came down to afew things.

Firstly, how often I would use it. I mean, if I just wanted to hire a Concept for a few months than it would be the smarter option. But if I want to use it for the long term that it is much better just to buy your own. And whilst I think I made the right choice on buying one for myself, I definetly made one mistake.

You see, a friend of mine also wanted to get a rower at about the same time as me. We both thought that the Concept 2 rowing machine was the best one for sale so we both purchased one of those. However, I’ve been burned in the past by second hand expensive junk so I decided to buy it new. However, my friend went ahead and bought a second hand concept rower for himself.

It’s been over a year now and my rowing machine runs just as well as the very day I bought it. But my friends Concept also goes just as well as mine does. He hasn’t had to buy any parts for it or do any repairs at all (and neither have I). So it’s exactly the same except for one little difference – he paid just a fraction of the price that I had to pay!

Thats why from now on if I want to get any new fitness equipment for my home gym, I’m looking on eBay and other second hand sites for a bargain. Of course you do need to shop around, but you can get some great second hand and used Cocept 2 rowers.
